This instant pot split pea soup is vegetarian and gluten-free. There is no need to soak the split peas and this recipe does not use any oil. It is loaded with vegetables and is an easy weeknight meal on cold and chilly days.

Instructions
Put all the ingredients except the "to be added" list into the instant pot liner.
Mix everything well with a spatula.
Close and lock the instant pot lid with the pressure valve in sealing position.
Pressure cook on high-pressure mode for 12 minutes. (turn the 'keep warm' setting on)
Allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes.
Remove the remaining pressure manually by turning the pressure valve in the venting position.
Add the black pepper and give it a quick stir.
While serving add a few drops of lime juice and garnish with chopped cilantro.
Notes
If the split peas are old it can take longer to cook, if they are
not well cooked
, you can pressure cook them for additional 5 minutes.
For a
smoky flavor
, you can add a teaspoon of smoky paprika.
If you like
spiciness
, you can add a teaspoon of serrano pepper while cooking or sprinkle some red chili flakes while serving.
