
Making donuts at home are easier than you could think. With the help of a bread machine, the task becomes more simplified as it helps to make perfect dough at the press of a button.
The dough is then shaped to make donuts, undergo final rise, deep fried in oil and then dipped into frosting. These bread machine donuts are made without eggs.
Ingredients
To make the donuts dough basic pantry ingredients like bread flour, instant yeast, sugar, milk, salt, and sugar are used.
For the frosting, melting chocolate chips, unsalted butter and heavy cream are needed. Optionally sprinkles are used for decoration.

Instructions
Place all the ingredients to make the dough in the bread machine in the order recommended by the bread machine manufacturer. Select and start the "dough" cycle.

- Gather all the ingredients to make the donut dough.

- Put all ingredients in the bread machine pan and make dough using the dough cycle.
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll it into 5 millimeter thickness. Cut out donut rounds using big and small circular cookie cutters. Cover them with a cling wrap and let them rise for 45 minutes.

4. Deep fry the donut after it rises for 30-45 minutes.
Deep fry the donuts until golden brown in oil on medium heat. Place the fried donuts on a kitchen towel to get rid of any excess oil.
Make the frosting by melting the chocolate chips and mixing in butter and heavy cream to make it smooth. Dip the donuts into the frosting while they are warm and decorate them with sprinkles.

5. Take the donuts out of the oil once golden brown.

6. Dip in chocolate frosting and decorate with sprinkles.
Substitutions
- Yeast - Bread machine yeast and instant yeast can be used interchangeably.
- Flour - All-purpose flour or bread flour can be used to make this donuts recipe.
Variations
Use different flavored melting chocolate chips for different color of the frosting.

Equipment
I made donut dough in the 2 lb. Zojirushi bread machine using the "dough" setting. You can make it in any bread machine.

Storage
Frosted donuts can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days. You can make them ahead of time for an event.
Top Tip
- Heat oil on medium heat. High temperature will leave them uncooked from inside, low temperature will make donuts soak up lot of oil.
- For consistent results, weigh the flour using a digital food scale.

Bread Machine Donuts
Equipment
- Circle cookie cutters (approx. 3 inches diameter and 1 inch diameter)
Ingredients
Wet ingredients
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp Milk (whole, microwave 20 seconds)
- 4 tablespoon Unsalted butter (melted)
Dry ingredients
- 4 tablespoon Organic cane sugar
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 3 ½ cup Bread flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoon Bread machine yeast
Frosting
- 1 cup Melting Chocolate
- 2 tablespoon Unsalted butter
- 2 - 3 tbsp Heavy cream
For deep frying
- Oil (for frying, about 2 inches depth)
Instructions
Make dough in the bread machine
- Place the wet and dry ingredients in the order required by your bread machine.1 cup + 2 tbsp Milk, 4 tablespoon Unsalted butter, 4 tablespoon Organic cane sugar, 1 teaspoon Salt, 3 ½ cup Bread flour , 2 ¼ teaspoon Bread machine yeast
- Close the lid and select the "Dough" cycle.
- The dough will be ready once the cycle completes.
Make donut rounds
- Remove the dough on a lightly floured surface.
- Roll the dough using a rolling pin into thickness of 5 millimeter on a silicone mat.
- Use a cookie cutter (about 3 inches in diameter) and cut the dough.
- Using the smaller cookie cutter (about 1 inch in diameter) cut the larger donut rounds from the center to make donut holes.
- Remove the excess dough and roll again and follow the above 3 steps to make more donuts.
- Cover the donut rounds with a cling wrap and allow it to rise for about 30-45 minutes until it doubles in volume.
Frying the donuts
- Heat oil in a frying pan on medium heat. (Oil should be about 2 inches deep)Oil
- Carefully lift the risen donut rounds and drop it carefully in the oil.
- Fry the donuts on both the sides until golden brown in color.
- Take the donuts out from oil and place it on a kitchen towel.
- Fry all the donut rounds.
Frosting donuts
- Melt the melting chocolate chips as per directions.1 cup Melting Chocolate
- Add the heavy cream and butter and mix it well to make a smooth frosting.2 - 3 tablespoon Heavy cream, 2 tablespoon Unsalted butter
- Dip the warm donuts in the frosting and decorate with your favorite sprinkles.
