Samosa is a famous savory Indian snack but they can be quite tedious to prepare from scratch. I have been using frozen samosas and kachoris since years and enjoy serving them on snack boards.
Air fryer frozen samosa turns out crispy and perfect in a matter of a few minutes. I like the fact that they are quick to prepare and you can just make as few or as many as you want.
Ingredients
You will need frozen store-bought samosas and optionally some oil in an oil sprayer. Frozen samosa are easily available in the freezer section in the Indian grocery stores, Trader Joe's, Costco, Whole Foods, Walmart, and other supermarkets.
I love the 'Deep' brand Punjabi samosas for air frying. They are perfect for a quick snack or to serve a crowd. Other brands like Haldiram and Ashoka frozen samosas can also be cooked in the air fryer in a similar way.
You can find frozen samosa with a variety of fillings like potato and green peas samosa, paneer samosa, and cheese and jalapeño samosa. They are also available in different sizes like large or mini samosas.
Instructions
It is very quick and easy to cook frozen samosa in the air fryer. First, preheat the air fryer to 390°F for about 5 minutes. Now depending on the type of samosa, you can thaw them based on the package instructions.
I have used large frozen samosa and 4 pieces usually take about 2 minutes to thaw in the microwave. Place the thawed samosas in a single layer in the preheated air fryer basket and cook them.
Step 1: Thaw frozen samosa in microwave
Step 2: Place frozen samosa in preheated air fryer at 390°F.
After about 5 minutes open the basket and carefully turn them if needed with the help of the kitchen tongs. Depending on the brand, some samosas may seem dry on the surface and some may ooze out oil.
If needed, apply some oil using a basting brush or spray some with an oil sprayer and continue air frying for additional few minutes.
Place the basket back in and heat for another 3-4 minutes till they turn golden brown. The time of cooking may vary depending on the count of samosa.
Step 3: Air fry frozen samosa for 6-8 minutes and spray oil if needed.
Step 4: Transfer samosa to a serving plate and enjoy with chutneys.
Variations
Frozen samosas can be cooked in other ways too, either by deep-frying or baking in the oven. The first step is to thaw or defrost the large samosas in the microwave before cooking.
Defrosted frozen samosas can be baked in the preheated oven at 400 °F for 15 -20 minutes.
They can also be deep-fried on the stove top on medium heat.
Equipment
I have made these frozen samosas in the Philips air fryer as well as Instant Vortex Plus air fryer. Depending on the capacity of your air fryer basket, you can air fry more or less samosas in a batch.

Storage
Sometimes you may have leftover cooked samosas. You can store them in the fridge for 1-2 days. When you are ready to eat, you can reheat the samosas in the air fryer for about 2-3 minutes at 390°F before serving.
If you have a large batch of samosas, you can reheat them in the oven for about 5 minutes at 400°F.
