These air fryer sweet potato wedges are vegan, gluten-free, easy to make, kid-friendly, and can be served as a snack or appetizer. It is a healthy side dish that requires very little effort and can be made with little oil and few ingredients for seasoning.
Ingredients
Air fryer sweet potato fries require very few ingredients and it is a versatile side dish that can be seasoned as per one's preference. At the very least it requires just a little bit of olive oil and salt.
However, rosemary, garlic powder, or other herbs can be added to enhance the flavor. If you like a bit of spice then you can sprinkle some black pepper, red chili flakes, or paprika. I usually avoid spicy herbs to make it a kid-friendly dish.
Instructions
Sweet potatoes can be a bit challenging to slice and cut, so you need a good knife. I personally use the Komachi knife and it is a breeze to cut the sweet potatoes into the desired size.
First, chop and discard the tail ends of the sweet potato and then remove the skin using a vegetable peeler.
Sweet potatoes can be cut into wedges of desired thickness. Cutting them thick gives good results and they do not get burnt or dry while cooking. I usually cut it into wedges of 1-centimeter thickness and about 2-3 inches in length.

Once the sweet potatoes are cut into chunks of the desired size, rinse them thoroughly in cold water to get rid of excess starch. You can also leave them in water for about 10 minutes. Let them dry in a colander or pat dry on a paper towel for a few minutes.
Once the excess moisture is gone, transfer them into a large mixing bowl, add some olive oil, and some salt to taste. Optionally, add some pepper powder or herbs like rosemary or garlic powder and toss them well. Let them rest for 5-10 minutes.

Preheat the air fryer to 390° F and then place the sweet potato wedges in the air fryer basket possibly in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding so that the fries are cooked evenly.
Air fry the sweet potatoes for about 15 minutes, giving the basket a few shakes in between. The sweet potato wedges are done when you see they are slightly golden brown and crisp from the top. You can also insert a fork to check if they are tender from the inside, else you can air fry them for a few more minutes.
Variations
Seasoning - you can use garlic powder, onion powder, Italian herbs, pepper, or red chili flakes for seasoning and adapting it to your taste.
Cheese - sprinkle some grated cheese on the top of the fries while they are hot to make it a delicious side dish.
Serving suggestions
Sweet potato fries can be served as a snack, side dish, or an appetizer. They are great for after-school snacks for the kids. It is best to serve them hot else they can become soft once they cool down.
You can serve the sweet potato wedges with your favorite dipping sauce, ranch dressing, or with some tomato ketchup.
If you like some heat, sprinkle some black pepper or red chili powder or serve it with some hot sriracha sauce.

Equipment
I have made these air fryer potato wedges in the Philips air fryer. They can be made in any basket-style or oven-style air fryer with trays.
Depending on the air fryer, you may have to make the wedges in multiple batches and the time may vary by a few minutes.
The cooking time will also depend on the thickness of the wedges.
Storage
It is best to eat the sweet potato fries hot and freshly cooked. However, at times you may have some leftovers.
You can easily refrigerate the leftovers for a couple of days in an airtight container and reheat them in the air fryer. The only downside is that it may not be as fresh, crisp, and juicy in taste as the first time around.

Unfortunately these fries were not crispy at all. I followed the recipe exactly. Not sure what I did wrong. Thx

Hi Angie,
Sweet potato fries will not be as crispy as the potato fries. To get the slight crispiness, ensure that they are well coated with oil and you can also cook them for 1-2 minutes extra.
Hope this helps.

Alpa
