Ingredients
This homemade vegan ice cream without coconut milk requires very few ingredients. I have made it with oat milk, oat cream, vanilla extract, organic cane sugar, and a pinch of salt.
I have used the Planet Oat brand of oat milk and Oatly brand oat creamer. Any of the brands will work fine. Instead of sugar, a low glycemic index sweetener like agave nectar can be used.

Instructions
In a mixing bowl, add the oat milk, organic cane sugar or agave nectar, and a pinch of salt. Blend it well with a hand blender with a whisk attachment and blend it at low speed until all the sugar has dissolved.
Then add the vanilla extract and the oat creamer and mix it with a spoon. There is no need to whisk or blend the creamer as we will churn the mixture in the ice crema maker.

Optionally you can chill the mixture in the fridge for about an hour or so. Transfer the ice cream mixture to the ice cream maker bowl and churn it for about 25-30 minutes.
If you use an ice cream maker with a freezer bowl then you will have to freeze the bowl for 24 hours before you can churn the ice cream.

Once the ice cream is done churning, it will be of soft-serve and creamy consistency. To make it firmer, transfer it to a freezer-safe container and freeze it for 5-6 hours before serving.
Creamy, scoopable, dairy-free, and gluten-free ice cream is now ready for you to enjoy with your family and friends. You will not even realize that it is made without dairy, it tastes so good!

Substitutions
This homemade vegan and gluten-free ice cream requires very few ingredients. I have made it with oat milk, oat creamer, vanilla extract, organic cane sugar, and a pinch of salt. A few substitutions can be made.
- Sugar - instead of organic cane sugar, a low glycemic index sweetener like Agave nectar can be used. The only difference is the ice cream will be less scoopable.
Serving suggestions
You can enjoy this vegan vanilla ice cream served in a waffle cone, sugar cone, or a waffle bowl. You can serve it with some chocolate sauce, grated chocolate, caramel sauce, chopped nuts, tutti frutti, or rainbow sprinkles.
You can take this vegan ice cream to another level by serving it with a hot brownie or lava cake. It is a perfect dessert to enjoy on special occasions.

Equipment
I have made this vegan ice cream in the Cuisinart ICE-100 compressor ice cream maker. It makes about 1 quart of ice cream. You can make the ice cream in an ice cream maker and scale the recipe based on the capacity of your ice cream maker.
If you enjoy homemade ice creams as they give you a lot of control over the ingredients, you can check this blog post on which ice cream maker to buy.
Storage
Just like other homemade ice creams, this vegan vanilla ice cream can be stored in an airtight freezer-safe container for about a month.
Top tip
- If you use organic cane sugar the ice cream is creamy and scoopable. If you use another sweetener like agave nectar, the ice cream will be less scoopable.
- To reduce the overall churn time, you can precool the compressor ice cream maker bowl for 5-10 minutes before pouring the mixture.
