Summer is here and all you need is a refreshing drink. It is even better if the beverage is made with fresh fruits and has no added preservatives, just like this homemade orange soda drink.

Orange soda is a non-alcoholic beverage that can be made in just 10 minutes from scratch using fresh orange juice. It is sugar-free and a perfect accompaniment for parties, potlucks, and bbq.

    Ingredients

Orange soda drink can be easily made at home with just 2 ingredients - orange juice and club soda. It is best to squeeze fresh juice from oranges using a citrus juicer.

Club soda or homemade soda can be used to make this refreshing beverage. A pinch of salt can be added to enhance the taste. Some sugar can be added to adjust the sweetness, especially if the oranges are on the sour side.

How to make fresh-squeezed orange juice?

The easiest way to squeeze orange juice is to use a citrus juicer, either an electric one or a manual one. You can also peel the oranges and blend them in a blender like Vitamix after removing any seeds.

Slice the oranges into halves and then place them on the citrus juicer and apply some pressure. An electric citrus juicer will rotate on applying the pressure and you can collect the juice in a small pitcher.

There may be some pulp but you can use it as is to make the orange juice soda. However, if you have fussy kids, you can strain it using a strainer prior to adding the soda.

After juicing, don't trash those orange peels! You can make these delicious chocolate-covered orange peels.

How to make soda water from scratch?

I personally like to make my own soda water using a SodaStream soda maker. It just takes a few seconds and you can add fresh soda to your favorite drinks.

Fill the bottle provided with SodaStream with cold water and press the machine a couple of times or as recommended in the instruction booklet to add the fizz. Soda is ready!

You can use this homemade soda to make watermelon soda and strawberry float.

    How to make orange soda?

Once you have squeezed the fresh orange juice and have the soda ready, it is just a matter of mixing both to make the orange soda.

Pour some ice in a tall glass and then add the orange juice. Now add the soda and you will see the drink has become fizzy. Orange soda is ready for you to enjoy.

You can adjust the amount of soda based on your preference. I like to add orange juice and soda in the ratio of 2:1.

Depending on how sweet or sour the oranges are, you can add a pinch of salt and a sweetener of your liking (such as agave nectar or stevia) to enhance the taste of the drink.

How long does fresh squeezed juice last in fridge?

Fresh orange juice can be stored in an air tight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. If you plan on storing the juice, squeeze the juice and immediately refrigerate it as keeping orange juice at room temperature for long can make it bitter.

So if you are planning for a potluck, party or a get-together and want to make this awesome easy to make orange soda drink then you can pre-squeeze the oranges and refrigerate the juice before hand.

When it is time, just mix in the soda and ice and you are ready to serve. If you mix the soda and store it then the fizz effect will go away. So it is best to add soda when you are ready to have a sip!
