A mixed berry smoothie is a perfect breakfast smoothie with great health benefits. It just takes a few minutes of prep work and can be a good kid's after-school snack. It is gluten-free and can be made vegan by using plant-based yogurt, or milk.

This mixed berries smoothie is made with frozen fruit in Vitamix. Vitamix works great for smoothies and also has a preset smoothie setting in some models.

    Mixed berry smoothie ingredients

A mixed berry smoothie is made with a mix of different berries and yogurt. I like to add strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. However, if you are out of any one of them, you can simply skip it and work with what you have.

To give a natural sweetness to the smoothie, a banana works well. If needed, I add a low glycemic index sweetener like blue agave for additional sweetness.

This mixed berry smoothie can be easily made vegan by using non-dairy yogurt, almond milk, or just plain fruit juice like orange or apple juice.

I also like to add soaked chia seeds to my smoothies as they are highly nutritious.

Health benefits of mixed berry smoothie

Berries are loaded with antioxidants and are high in fiber. They also provide a lot of nutrients and are rich in vitamin C. For a complete list of health benefits of berries, check out this post on healthline.com.

Also, there is no need to add any sugar to the mixed berry smoothie as banana adds natural sweetness.

How to soak chia seeds for smoothie?

In a small bowl take about a tablespoon of chia seeds and soak it in enough water for at least 30 minutes. You can also soak it overnight.

Soaked chia seeds can be added to the smoothie while blending or as a topping.

How to make a mixed berry smoothie?

Defrost the frozen berries a little bit in the microwave so that they are easy to blend. It is okay if they are not completely thawed.

Put all the berries, banana, yogurt, soaked chia seeds, and optionally a sweetener in a high-speed blender like Vitamix.

If you have the presets then select the "smoothie" setting and let it run completely. You can also make the smoothie on the manual cycle by gradually increasing the speed from low to high and then blending on high speed for about 30 seconds.
