Fig smoothie is an easy-to-make gluten-free drink and can be made vegan too. I like to make this smoothie with dried figs.

Ingredients to make dried fig smoothie

Dried fig smoothie is a delicious beverage with just 3 ingredients - dried figs, banana, and milk. Both bananas and figs are sweet, so there is no need to add any sugar or sweetener.

If you are out of bananas, you can just make the shake with dried figs and milk too. Fig smoothie can also be made with fresh figs.

How to make a vegan dried fig smoothie?

To make a vegan dried fig smoothie, you can use plant-based milk like almond milk, or coconut milk.

Dried figs can be a little hard to blend so it is best to soften it before blending. To soften dried figs, soak the figs in water for about 30 minutes. If you want to speed it up, you can also soak them in lukewarm water for about 15 minutes.

How to make banana fig smoothie?

Once the dried figs are soaked, put the figs along with the water used for soaking, milk, and banana in a blender like Vitamix. Blend it on smoothie setting or gradually turn the speed from low to high and let it run for about 30-40 seconds.

As I use chilled milk, there is no need to add ice. However, if you wish you can also add some ice while blending.

Serve the smoothie in a tall glass or mason jars. I like to garnish it with some chopped dried figs and enjoy sipping it with a stainless steel straw.

Can you make dried fig smoothie ahead of time?

Yes. You can make the dried fig smoothie ahead of time and store it in the fridge for 1-2 days. I usually avoid adding bananas in that case as they can get oxidized. I mix it only before I am ready to serve it and quickly blend it with a hand blender.

Also, the smoothie will become thick after refrigerating for few hours. You can adjust the consistency by adding some milk and giving it a quick stir.

Ideally, there is no need to add any sweetener as figs and bananas add the sweetness. However, if you want it sweeter, you can add sugar, agave nectar, or a sweetener of your choice.
