Chikoo, also known as sapota or Sapodilla in English is a popular Indian fruit. It is sweet in taste and soft in texture once ripe.
Chikoo milkshake is a smoothie made with chikoo and usually without any ice cream. Chikoo milkshake can be easily made at home in just a matter of minutes.
In the USA, it is not very common to see fresh chikoo fruit, however, you will find frozen ones in the Indian grocery stores. They are already peeled, sliced, and the seeds are removed as well.

What is chikoo shake?
Chikoo shake or sapota shake is a smoothie made with chikoo fruit. Usually, it is made with fresh fruits but if you do not find fresh ones, frozen ones work perfectly well. In fact, I have been making it for years with frozen ones and don't feel any difference.
It is a perfect beverage to complement your weekend brunch or breakfast. Kids will love it because it is sweet in taste.

Chikoo milkshake ingredients
Chikoo milkshake is made with only 3 ingredients, chikoo, milk, and sugar. You can use fresh ripe or frozen fruit to make the shake at home. It can be made vegan by using almond milk or oat milk.
As the fruit has a lot of sweetness naturally, you can skip adding it to the shake. Or if you like, you can just add half a banana instead of sugar.
How to make chikoo milkshake at home?
To make chikoo milkshake at home, you will need ripe fresh chikoo or frozen ones. I have used the frozen ones which are already peeled, sliced, and deseeded.
Defrost them in the microwave and then roughly chop them with a knife. This is important because a few times I have found a seed inside the slices. If it gets blended in the shake, it will just turn very bitter. So it is best not to skip this step.
Now in a high speed blender like Vitamix, add all the 3 ingredients chikoo, milk, and sugar or banana. Blend on high speed until everything has blended well into a fine smoothie. Chikoo milkshake is now ready to drink!

Serving suggestions
It is best to consume chikoo milkshake fresh when it is made. It is sweet in taste and thick in consistency. You don't really need to add anything and it will make a satisfying drink in itself.
However, if you are serving it during a get-together, party, or potluck then you can get creative and top it with some ice cream. It is best to drink it with a straw instead of from a cup or glass as it can leave a sticky coating on your lips.
Storage
It is best to consume the chikoo milkshake when it is made. However, you can store any leftovers in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. The milk will separate a little bit but you can just stir the shake well before serving.
