Crunchy and tender potstickers, also known as gyoza or dumplings are a great accompaniment to your Asian meals. They are perfect to serve as an appetizer or a snack with your favorite dipping sauce.
However, they can be quite tedious to make from scratch. The good news is that the frozen pot stickers are easy to make in the air fryer in just under 15 minutes!
Air fryer frozen dumplings turn out crispy from the top and tender inside. They are as good as when you deep fry them but much healthier.
Frozen potstickers can be found in the frozen food aisles of your local grocery stores like Trader Joe's, Publix, Target, and Whole Foods. I enjoy frozen vegetable potstickers but other types of potstickers can be air fried in a similar way.
Air fryer frozen vegetable potstickers with a filling of carrots and cabbage are great to serve as an appetizer, snack, or a side dish with Asian meals. They are easy to make and any leftover dumplings can be stored in the fridge for later use.
Ingredients
To make frozen potstickers in the air fryer, you ideally need only two ingredients. Yes! the frozen potstickers and some oil. I have used vegetable potstickers but you can use other types of potstickers.
Frozen pot stickers are available in the freezer section in most grocery stores like Trader Joe's, Target, Walmart, Publix, and Whole Foods.
There are different types of dumplings available. I have used the vegetarian dumplings and you may have to adjust the air fry time accordingly.
Before you air fry potstickers, they need to be well coated with oil, or else they will become hard from the outside.
Instructions
Cooking frozen vegetable potstickers in the air fryer is easy and even kids can do it! You can cook the potstickers from frozen and there is no need to thaw them before air frying.
Preheat the air fryer to 360°F for 2-3 minutes or until it prompts you to add food. In the meantime, coat the potstickers with oil using an oil sprayer or a basting brush.
Now carefully place the potstickers in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You can air fry them in multiple batches if needed and also make use of kitchen tongs to help place them.
Air fry the frozen dumplings at 360°F for 12 minutes. After about 6-7 minutes of air frying, open the air fryer basket. At this point, if the potstickers look dry then you can apply some more oil with a basting brush, or spray some using an oil sprayer and then flip them.
Continue air frying for the remaining time and then open the air fryer basket. Crispy air fryer potstickers are now ready to eat with your favorite sauce.
If you want the potstickers to be more golden brown in color or if they are not as crispy as your liking then you can air fry them for a minute or two more.
Serving suggestions
It is best to serve the crunchy potstickers hot once they are out of the air fryer. You can serve them with the potsticker dipping sauce made with soy sauce and vinegar. A frozen potstickers packet usually comes with dipping sauce.
Equipment
I have made these frozen air fryer potstickers in the Instant Vortex Plus air fryer. It can be made in any type of air fryer, be it basket style or tray style, or any size. Depending on your air fryer model, the cooking time may vary by a minute or two.
Also, depending on the size of the air fryer, you may have to air fryer the frozen potstickers in multiple batches.
Storage
Air-fried frozen potstickers are best consumed immediately while they are hot. In case you have any leftover potstickers, you can store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. When you are ready to eat, you can simply reheat them in the air fryer at 350°F for a minute or two.
Top tip
It is recommended to coat the potstickers well with oil before air frying else they will turn out hard and chewy. You can apply some oil with a basting brush or use an oil sprayer.
