Asparagus is a nutritious vegetable and can be easily included in your meals as a side, in soups, or as a topping on pizza or pasta. This is an easy vegan and gluten-free recipe to cook frozen asparagus in the air fryer.
When asparagus is available in bulk, it is easy to freeze them before cooking and then use them as needed. An air fryer is really convenient to roast frozen asparagus compared to the oven. And of course, the fresh ones work great as well!
I love making a lot of frozen food in the air fryer and frozen garlic bread, frozen samosa, frozen falafel, frozen edamame, frozen okra, are a few of my favorites to make in the air fryer.
Health benefits of asparagus
Asparagus is low in calories and it is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It has a lot of nutrients including fiber and folate.
Eating asparagus has health benefits and it assists in weight loss, improving digestion, and lower blood pressure.
Ingredients
Asparagus is a delicious vegetable and really needs very few ingredients to season it while cooking. At the minimum, some olive oil and salt will make a tasty side dish. But I prefer to season it a little more with some garlic powder, pepper, and ginger.
After it is done cooking, some lemon juice can be sprinkled to make it slightly tangy. If you prefer, you can add some grated cheese.
Instructions
Cooking frozen asparagus spears in the air fryer is really very easy and that too without defrosting. First, preheat the air fryer to 390 °F. I love my Instant Vortex Plus air fryer and after selecting the time and temperature it will prompt me to add the food once it is preheated.
There is no need to thaw the frozen asparagus. Just spread them evenly in the air fryer and then cook them for 5 minutes. Personally, I like to add oil and seasoning a little later but you can always add it at the beginning.
After 5 minutes, drizzle some olive oil, salt, garlic powder, ginger, and black pepper on the asparagus and shake the basket to ensure it is mixed well. Now air fry for another 3 minutes and delicious asparagus is ready to be served!
Serving suggestions
Asparagus is a delicious and tasty side dish that goes well with any meal. To add more flavor you can sprinkle some grated cheese or some lime juice. It is a great accompaniment with soups and mushroom soup is one of my favorites.
I like to eat asparagus hot as soon as it is ready from the air fryer. But it can be served at room temperature as well. If you have any leftovers, you can store them in the fridge and reheat them in the microwave or the air fryer before serving.
Asparagus pairs well with Asian dishes like fried rice, lo mein, and kid-favorite mac and cheese. It can be served along with pasta recipes and we like it with broccoli pasta and baked pasta. Sometimes I also serve it with vegetable casserole.
