Ingredients
Roasting frozen brussels sprouts in an air fryer requires only a few basic ingredients apart from, of course, frozen brussels sprouts. You can use the frozen sprouts from the freezer section in the grocery stores. However, you can get fresh ones in bulk, and freeze them after thoroughly rinsing them.
Some olive oil, garlic powder, salt, rosemary, and pepper are all you need to add flavor. You can also use some fresh garlic cloves instead of garlic powder, or both.
For serving, add a few drops of lime juice, or serve with some grated cheese. They taste great even just like that out of the air fryer!
Instructions
There is no need to defrost or thaw the frozen brussel sprouts if you are roasting them in the air fryer. You just transfer them from the packet and season them with oil and herbs before putting them in the air fryer.
In a mixing bowl, mix some olive oil, herbs, and frozen brussel sprouts. Coat them well with the oil before transferring them into the air fryer basket in a single layer.
Preheat the air fryer to 390 °F. I have made these in the Instant Vortex air fryer. Cook the brussel sprouts for 14 minutes in the air fryer. Shake the basket after about 7-8 minutes to ensure they are cooked evenly.
Frozen brussel sprouts are very easy and quick to cook in the air fryer. They will be perfectly roasted and crispy from the outside and fork-tender from the inside in just under 15 minutes. You can adjust the cooking time to get the desired crispiness on the top.
As frozen brussel sprouts have more moisture, they usually take a little longer to cook compared to fresh brussel sprouts. The cook time will also depend on the size of the brussel sprouts.
Substitutions
This frozen brussel sprouts recipe is vegan and gluten-free. You can adapt it to your taste by using the seasoning of your preference.
Fresh brussel sprouts - you can easily roast fresh brussel sprouts in an air fryer instead of using frozen ones. They are faster to cook than frozen ones.
Garlic - instead of garlic powder, fresh garlic cloves or garlic chives can be used.
Serving suggestions
Roasted brussel sprouts are best served hot immediately after cooking them in the air fryer. They can be garnished with some grated cheese, melted butter, pepper, red chili flakes, lemon juice, or herbs. They also taste great with some roasted pine nuts.
Equipment
I have made these frozen air fryer brussel sprouts in Instant Vortex Plus air fryer. It can be made in any type of air fryer, be it basket style or tray style, or any size.
Depending on your air fryer, the cooking time may vary by a minute or two. Also, depending on the size of the air fryer, you may have to air fryer the frozen brussel sprouts in multiple batches, especially if you are cooking them to feed a crowd.
Storage
It is best to eat frozen brussel sprouts immediately after they are roasted. However, any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Allow the brussel sprouts to cool down completely before storing them else they can become a little soggy.
Refrigerated brussel sprouts can be reheated in the air fryer to regain their crispiness. Place the sprouts in the air fryer basket and heat them at 350 °F for about 5 minutes. They will regain its texture and will be good to eat.
