Ingredients
The best part of jalapeno cheese bread is that it requires only a few ingredients. Bread flour, instant yeast, salt, sugar, oil, and water are basic bread ingredients. Sliced jalapeno and grated sharp cheddar cheese are added as well.
Instructions
To make the jalapeno cheese bread in the bread machine, put all the wet and dry ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order recommended by the bread machine manufacturer.
It is best to weigh the flour using a digital food scale for consistent results.
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients.
Step 2: Put all the wet and dry ingredients in the bread pan.
Select and start the basic bread cycle for 1.5 lb. loaf. Choose the crust setting of your choice. The ingredients will start mixing. Observe the dough for 5-10 minutes until it forms a smooth ball and pulls away the sides of the pan while kneading.
If the dough is too wet or dry add some flour or water as needed. Once the cycle is complete, bread will be ready. If you want to remove the paddles so that you do not get a large hole in the bread, remove it after the last knead cycle.
Step 3: Select and start the basic cycle for 1.5 lb. loaf.
Step 4: Once the bread is ready, remove it from the pan and let it cool on a cooling rack.
Once the cycle is complete, jalapeno bread is ready. Remove the container from the bread machine, invert it, and shake it a little to get the bread out of the pan.
Place the bread on a cooling rack to let it cool down completely. Slice the bread with an electric knife or a serrated bread knife once it cools down completely.
Substitutions
Flour - Bread flour or all-purpose flour can be used for this recipe without any changes.
Yeast - Instant yeast or bread machine yeast can be used interchangeably.
Pepper - Instead of jalapeno peppers, serrano peppers can also be used.
Serving suggestions
Jalapeno cheese bread is a flavorful bread with a hint of spiciness. It is perfect to serve with creamy soups like cauliflower soup, asparagus soup, butternut squash soup, pumpkin soup, and carrot soup as it enhances the overall flavor.
It can also be served as a toast with butter. A grilled cheese with jalapeno bread tastes really delicious! It is also a great accompaniment with broccoli cheese dip and Indian pav bhaji fondue.
Equipment
I have made this jalapeno cheese bread in the Zojirushi Supreme bread machine. This recipe makes 1.5 lb. bread. Any bread maker will work for making this bread, just watch the dough while kneading for an initial 5-10 minutes and add some flour or water if needed.
To bake it in the oven using the dough cycle, a 9-inch by 5-inch pan works well.
Storage
Jalapeno cheese bread can be stored at room temperature in a bread box or an airtight container for 3-4 days. It can also be sliced and frozen for up to 6 months in freezer-safe containers or bread bags. Check out how to freeze bread.
Top tip
- It is best to weigh the flour with a digital food scale for consistent results.
- Take the bread out of the pan once the cycle is complete. If left in the pan longer, it will become soggy due to condensation.
- Slice the bread only after it cools down completely else the bread will lose its texture and become more dense.

Bake in the oven
- Place the wet and dry ingredients in the order required by your bread machine.1 cup Water, 4 tablespoon Oil, 3 ½ cup Bread flour, 2 tablespoon Organic cane sugar, 1 teaspoon Salt, 2 ¼ teaspoon Instant Yeast or Bread Machine yeast, ½ cup Cheddar cheese, 1 large Jalapeno pepper
- Close the lid and select the "dough" cycle.
- Once the cycle completes, remove the dough from the pan and shape it into a log of 8 inches in length.
- Place it in the bread baking pan (9 by 5 inches) and allow it to rise for about 45-50 minutes until it doubles in volume.
- Cover with a food wrap or a kitchen towel so that it does not dry up.
- Once it has doubled in volume, preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Remove the food wrap gently and then place the pan in the oven.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown in color.
- Transfer it to a cooling rack and allow it to cool down completely before slicing.
Notes
- Sifting and weighing the flour helps make the bread soft. Sifting is optional, however, weighing the flour gives consistent results.
- Once the bread is baked, remove it from the container and place it on a rack to cool down. Leaving the bread in the container to cool down can make it moist.
- The recipe makes 1.5 lb. bread. To make 1 lb. bread change servings to 8 and for 2 lb. bread, change servings to 16.
