Air fryer pizza is a perfect snack and quick bite when you want to make pizza for one or two people or when you don't want to heat the oven on hot summer days.
Making pizza in an air fryer from scratch is easy and takes much less time to make. An oven usually takes a longer time to preheat and also takes much longer to bake the pizza. But with the air fryer it is much faster.
Also, when you have frozen dough for pizza and want to use it to make one or two pizzas, it is best to do it in the air fryer as it is much quicker.
This is an easy air fryer pizza recipe made from scratch with homemade pizza dough.

Ingredients
For pizza base you will need to make dough using all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, olive oil, water, and yeast. Instead of all-purpose flour, bread flour will work as well. If you are making the pizza dough in the bread machine or the stand mixer, you can use instant yeast.
You can also use frozen pizza dough balls and just use as many as you need.
For pizza topping, your favorite pizza sauce, vegetable slices, shredded mozzarella cheese, optionally some cheddar cheese, and herbs are needed. I like to use pineapple, bell pepper, mushrooms, onions, and olives on my pizza but you can use what you like.
Instructions
To make dough, a KitchenAid stand mixer comes in very handy. Put all the wet and dry ingredients to make the dough into the stand mixer bowl and knead it well with the dough hook on setting 2. Knead for about 12 minutes or until the dough attaches to the hook and the sides of the bowl are clean.
Make a dough ball and let it rest in the bowl for about 45 minutes to an hour or until it becomes double in volume. You can also proof the dough in the Instant Pot especially in the cold weather.
Step 1: Gather all the pizza dough ingredients.
Step 2: Knead a soft dough and let it rise.
Optionally, if you plan and freeze pizza dough for later use, it is a good time to use it to make air fryer pizza. You can remove as many frozen dough balls as you need and let them thaw at room temperature for about 45 minutes to an hour.
Once you have the pizza dough ready, you can punch the dough and divide it into dough balls of about 90 grams each. When you roll the dough, it should be about 3-4 millimeters thick and should fit inside your air fryer basket. If you roll too thick then the pizza may not cook well from the inside.
Step 3: Once dough is risen divide into 8 parts.
Step 4: Roll the dough to a pizza base.
On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to make a flat base about 6-7 inches in diameter and 3-4 millimeters thick. Prick it with a fork so that it does not puff up. Apply some olive oil on the top of the base and put it in the preheated air fryer. Air fry the pizza base for about 3 minutes at 400°F.
The top of the pizza crust will be golden brown and that is a sign that the base is well cooked. If needed you can air fry it for about a minute more.
Step 5: Place the pizza base in the air fryer.
Step 6: Cook the pizza base in air fryer.
Remove the pizza crust from the air fryer basket and apply your favorite pizza sauce, toppings, herbs, and cheese.
Place the pizza in the air fryer and cook it for 3-4 minutes at 400°F or until the cheese is melted and golden brown. Remove the pizza from the air fryer basket with the help of a spatula. Cut it into a desired number of pieces.
Step 7: Assemble the pizza and place it in the air fryer.
Step 8: Air fry pizza until cheese is golden brown.
Substitutions
- Sauce - instead of pizza sauce you can use marinara sauce or alfredo sauce.
- Bread flour - instead of all-purpose flour, you can use bread flour.
- Yeast - you can use active dry yeast instead of instant yeast, just activate it by mixing it in warm water and sugar. Once it becomes bubbly, mix it with the flour and salt and knead it.
Variations
- Toppings - you can make Indian-style paneer pizza by using paneer and other Indian spices.
- Naan pizza - instead of making pizza crust from scratch, you can use naan bread to make naan pizza.
- Pizza for one - if you want to make only one pizza for yourself, you can freeze the rest of the dough by making smaller balls.
- Thin crust pizza - if you prefer thin crust pizza, use this recipe to make thin crust pizza dough and then air fry the pizza.
Equipment
To make pizza dough, I have used the bowl lift KitchenAid stand mixer with the hook attachment. You can also make the dough in a bread maker or by hand. In cold weather, an Instant Pot comes in handy to proof the dough.
To air fry the pizza, I have used the 4 qt. Instant Vortex Plus air fryer. Any other air fryer, basket style, or tray style will work fine.
Storage
Any leftover pizza can be stored in an airtight container or aluminum foil in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. When you are ready to eat, you can reheat it in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350°F.
You can also freeze the leftover pizza dough and use it when you need it.
Top tip
Ensure that the pizza crust is only 3-4 millimeter in thickness when you roll it. If it is too thick, it may not cook evenly from the inside.
